6 Self Isolation Survival Tips
These are some scary times that we have been presented with the past month and a half. A virus that has taken not just a small portion of the world, but has developed into a global pandemic. For this very reason, I’ve created a little survival guide to tackle your self isolation woes!
1. One Goal for the Day
Although we are all taking this one day at a time - I’ve dedicated myself to one goal a day, and one goal only.
The reason being is I love to make lists of what I need to get done - but I would always label them “To Do”. Although it was a completely mental block, I found it really overwhelming to tackle anything on the list at all because there was just so much. So i changed my mindset - and wrote “Goals”
The word goal in itself is friendlier, and does not put as much pressure on you as ‘to do’ does.
So, I try to do one productive thing for my business per day, and hey! If I over-achieve and do more than that, then that’s a bonus!
2. Change it Up
It can be daunting being trapped inside staring at your workstation in the corner of the room. Take time to be productive, and then if you notice yourself squinting or losing your productive rhythm - change up what you are doing prep for something later in the day that’s not as brain intensive (Personally, I like to clean). Take an hour to yourself, then get back at it once you are ready!
3. Off the Plastic and into the Paper
I’ve found I’ve spent so much time staring at screens. My computer, cell phone, the TV. It literally never stops. Dive back into paperback novels, and since we can’t go anywhere physically - give your brain a chance to travel somewhere new through literature! Make sure you are sitting by a bright window or by a reading lamp (otherwise we end up doing what we want to avoid - straining our precious lil corneas!
4.Get in the Kitchen
If you know me personally, you have most likely have heard of my kitchen mishaps. But even my past of setting whole Thanksgiving turkeys on fire cannot deter me from one thing.
Snacks.
See, now… I’ve thought this through. Snacks are great and all - but nothing I was eating was anything I made. So… I changed that. I always have a backup on the counter ready to go (because let’s be real - any kitchen creation of mine could flop at any moment) but hey! I’m giving an honest go at it - and you can too!
5. Marie Kondo Dis B***H
Now be honest… when’s the last time any of us really purged our belongings? My mother (bless her heart) has pointed out that I have some articles of clothing she remembers purchasing for me. Now this isn’t so bad until you hear they are from Grade 8. I’m 22 people - lets get er’ movin’!
Revitalize your space and make sure it grows with you. Because, let me tell you… staring at a room which I’m not loving is getting to me! I’ve gone through my drawers only to realize I’m really bad at rehoming things. I can fit all my clothes in now, but I definitely want to half it one more time!
But believe me, I already feel 1000x better. So take an hour, or a day and just clean here and there and before you know it you will have completely transformed your space!
6. Be Tactile. Be Creative.
Do something out of the norm. We have that box of craft and drawing supplies that we only use once in a blue moon. Well there’s no blue moon, but there is definitely a need to exercise your brain in different and fun ways! Colour, draw, paint - release some of that energy that you have pent up!
